Since March 15th, we could welcome 27 guests from Japan, mostly women and children. They happily took advantage of the generous offer given by all our hosts.
It was very early clear to us, that it would not be sufficient to do a database matching between guests and hosts. We knew that the people who were coming would all express special needs: schools, kindergartens, medical treatment, financial support, help with the visa, legal advice, flight tickets, questions concerning contamination and so on. The majority of our guests actually decided to start a new life in Germany beyond the 3 months that the tourist visa would grant.
Until today we have operated the Open Home Project as volunteers offering our personal resources. We have finally reached our limit of operation concerning logistics, full-time dedication and funding. For this reason we have closed the Open Home Project. We continue to care for the people that have already arrived.
More than one thousand people from all around the world have offered rooms to support the people living in Japan during the time of uncertainty. At this point, we would like to thank you for your hospitality and the strong human signal you have sent.
